Garden & Landscape Design Stourbridge
A thoughtful garden design starts with how you want to live outdoors. F.B & Sons can help you shape a garden in Stourbridge around its setting, your routines and the things you value, from family space and entertaining to quieter corners and planting.
We are the team behind the RHS medal-winning St Godwald's Retreat. Its ideas of reflection, heritage craft, reclaimed materials and naturalistic planting reflect the care we bring to customer gardens, with each design responding to its own brief.

Begin with your garden and your priorities
Tell us what works now, what you would like to change and how the garden is used. We discuss your budget, access, levels, light and the relationship between the house and outdoor space before agreeing the design scope.
A consultation helps establish the brief. The surveys, drawings and planting information needed for your project are explained in the proposal, so you understand what is included and what decisions come next.

Design that responds to the site
A small courtyard and a larger family garden need different layouts, but both benefit from a clear purpose. We look at movement, privacy, views, shade and planting alongside the existing levels and access.
We can discuss ways to reuse sound materials, introduce native or climate-appropriate planting and make ongoing care manageable. These choices are made for your garden rather than added as a standard formula.

Plan before committing to the build
An agreed design gives the project direction and helps identify the work to be priced. It lets you compare material choices, consider priorities and decide whether construction should be completed together or in phases.
The design and build costs remain distinct. We explain the information needed for a construction quotation and the decisions that could affect the scope or budget.
A considered approach from our team
We combine design thinking with practical landscaping experience. Our approach is calm and collaborative: listen carefully, explain the options and keep the brief grounded in the garden and its intended use.
Our RHS medal-winning show-garden work is one example of that approach. For your project, the focus stays on the space, the people who will use it and the care it will need over time.

A clear design process
We develop the layout around the agreed brief, balancing practical routes, useful spaces, materials and planting. The design work can include hand-drawn and watercolour concepts, with further information agreed to suit the project.
We explain the presentation, review stages and any revisions included before you appoint us. Larger or more complex projects may need additional surveys or specialist input, which we discuss rather than assuming it is covered.
A garden with its own character
The style should follow your home, the setting and what feels right to you. A contemporary terrace, a more natural planted garden or a space influenced by another landscape can all begin with the same questions about use, comfort and care.
We consider how the garden will change through the seasons and how much maintenance you want to take on. Plants, paths and seating are brought together as one design.
Garden design questions
Can you help if I do not know what I want yet?
Yes. Photographs, examples you like and a conversation about how you use the garden can help establish a brief. You do not need to arrive with a finished design.
What does the design service include?
We agree the scope for your project and explain the drawings, planting information, presentation and review stages included in the proposal. Additional surveys or specialist work are identified where needed.
What happens after concept design?
Concept design is a paid stage, agreed and paid for before work begins. If your project needs more detail, you can choose a separately priced technical stage for construction drawings, specifications or planting information. We agree its scope first; appointing us for design does not oblige you to use us for construction.
How much does design cost?
The design fee depends on the scope and information required. Plan Your Garden Project can check the initial design visit fee for your postcode; this is separate from the full design commission and construction costs. We explain the charges before booking.
How long should I allow?
Design can take around six to twelve weeks depending on the brief, decisions and workload. Larger landscaping projects may be planned around twelve months ahead, with construction sometimes taking place the following year. We confirm current timings for your project.
Can you build the design as well?
Our landscaping team can discuss construction from the agreed design. Design approval does not itself book a build slot; scope, quotation and availability are agreed separately.
Can another contractor build the garden?
Tell us at the briefing stage if you plan to use another contractor, so the design information needed for pricing and construction can be included in the agreed scope.
Do you design gardens outside the West Midlands?
Yes, garden design and landscaping can be considered throughout the UK. Travel, site information and the practical arrangements are discussed before a visit is booked.
