Telephone of the Wind
A space for private reflection, inspired by the Japanese concept, allowing people to ‘speak’ to those they have lost.
Inspired by the Japanese "wind phone" concept, the telephone offered a space for private reflection within the 2025 RHS Malvern garden. The wind telephone is not physically connected to any network, yet it serves as a portal to the past. At the show, it provided an opportunity for visitors to speak to loved ones who have passed away or to say the words that were left unsaid. The wind carries these words through the air, symbolically connecting the speaker to the world beyond. It is an emotional and contemplative space—an invitation to express thoughts and feelings, knowing that the wind will carry them far and wide, to an unseen destination. The wind telephone adds a profound layer of spiritual meaning to the garden, offering comfort and peace through connection.
